Tutorial: Build Your Perfect Speaker in 3 Easy Steps
SpeakerDesign.dev tools are connected. Your driver data flows from modeling to enclosure decisions and then to real wood panels, so you avoid repeated manual math and copy/paste mistakes.
Step 1: Specify Your Driver
Start in the Driver Wizard or T/S Parameters tool. Enter Fs, Qts, Vas, Sd, Xmax, and the other core specs from your datasheet.
This is the master input for everything else. If the driver data is wrong, every later result will be wrong too.
Step 2: Simulate Response & Target Enclosure
Use the Box Simulator to test how that driver behaves. For vented designs, our intelligent engine uses professional Thiele-Small lookup tables to automatically assign the optimal alignment (QB3, SBB4, or EBS) based on your driver's Qts.
It also dynamically assigns a realistic, off-the-shelf port diameter based on your target box volume (Vb) to ensure your design is actually buildable.
Step 3: Calculate Dimensions & Generate Cutlist
Move into the Box Calculator. Your Project Targets (like Vb, Fb, and Port dimensions) are automatically imported from the simulator so you never have to copy/paste.
The calculator features a live Port Fitment Check to ensure your port actually fits inside the physical internal depth of your cabinet. Finally, send those panel sizes to the Cutlist Optimizer for an efficient sheet layout.
FAQ & Tips
Why does my Qtc not change?
Qtc is only relevant for closed-box conditions and valid input ranges. If a required value is missing or invalid, the simulator validation blocks misleading updates.
Can I use comma and dot decimals?
Yes. Inputs support both decimal separators, and fractional style input is parsed by the shared number parser.
Metric or Imperial?
Use the global system selector in the header. The interface updates unit dropdowns while calculations stay consistent internally.
What does the "Port Fitment Warning" mean?
A bass reflex port needs breathing room inside the cabinet to prevent "chuffing" (air turbulence). The golden acoustic rule is: Internal Depth must be ≥ Port Length + Port Diameter. If your port is too long, our Box Calculator will warn you so you can adjust your cabinet dimensions or use an angled PVC elbow joint before you start cutting wood.
